Obama Needs A New Armored Limo. Cadillac, Lincoln Compete for contract.

Providing presidential limos since 1993, Cadillac seems to be the ideal candidate for this mission, which requires building an armored vehicle “in accordance with [classified] government-provided specifications”, but Ford’s Lincoln brand is also expected to go after the contract. Contacted by Motor Trend, both automakers declined any comments, while Chrysler said it has no interest in developing such a car.

The contract is to be awarded by September 29, 2013, once a manufacturer manages to meet all the government’s requirements.

US president Barack Obama has used the same armored Cadillac limousine since 2008. Underpinned by a heavy-duty truck chassis, the stretched Cadillac is known as The Beast.
